Selection Criteria The criteria for selection of watersheds are based upon a number of indicators which signify backwardness like shortage of drinking water, large population of poor Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribes, preponderance of wastelands, low rainfall, evapo-transpiration, sedimentation rate etc. The villages are selected based on certain parameters. Separate weightage is given to each of these parameters. However, over the years it has been realised that where mechanical parameters are not sufficient, mobilisation of the community, the readiness of the people to come together are also important prerequisites and must not be ignored. |
