Current Status Prior to the implementation of the new watershed development guidelines, an area of 4.19 lakh hectares was covered under DPAP in our State. However, after the formulation of new watershed guidelines with participatory action, a total of 2090 watersheds covering an area of 10.45 lakh hectares and an amount of Rs. 1418 crores have been taken up in two years - 1995-96 and 1996-97. After the launch of the 10-year perspective plan, combining the resources of Rural Development, another 5887 watersheds in wastelands and forestlands have been added. They cover an area of 18,22,100 hectares. As a result of this, an area of approximately 29 lakh hectares, involving an expenditure of Rs. 728.84 crores was covered as on April 1, 1998. |
