STATUS OF OUR MINERAL RESOURCES

Our state stands second in mineral resources and fifth in mineral production. Put together, our contribution to the national income is about Rs. 8000 million, while it is Rs. 4500 million to the State Exchequer. The following figures highlight our state's position vis-a-vis mineral availability.

Our state accounts for 96% of the country's barytes reserves, 86% of mica reserves, 55% of ball clay reserves, 30% of quartz reserves, 23% of bauxite reserves, 44% of limestone reserves and 6% of coal reserves. About 42 minerals have so far been found and identified through exploitation, although the vast and varied geological terrain is still not fully explored.
