The location of hazardous waste generating industries in the state is mainly in three major zones. The three zones are Hyderabad (comprising the districts of Hyderabad, Rangareddy and Medak), Visakhapatnam (comprising Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram and Srikakulam) and Tirupathi (comprising Chittoor and Cuddapah)

The Hyderabad Zone accounts for 300 units out of the total of 481 hazardous waste generating units. This means 58% of such units are in the Hyderabad zone. The Visakhapatnam Zone accounts for 36 units (7.5%) and the Tirupathi Zone has 32 units, a percentage of 6.6%. The balance of 134 units (forming 28%) are spread all over the state.
