About 54,500 industries were established under the Prime Minister's Rojgar
Yojana with an investment of Rs. 366 crores providing livelihood to 1.16
lakh people.
Also, a budget of Rs. 450 crores was allotted for the year 1998-99 to
set up four industrial growth centres.
To encourage industrial development, the state government has committed
itself to processing loan applications as well as applications for power
connections within 30 days.
Another factor facilitating industrialization is transportation. Our state
is well connected by road, rail and air to various parts of the country.
Visakhapatnam is a deep-water port with facilities to handle all types
of cargoes and accounts for over 30 million tonnes of traffic per
