Guidelines

In terms of parameters, each industry has to meet or comply with the standards for discharge prescribed for pH, TDS, SS, BOD, COD etc.

The Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board issues consents to industries called

  1. Consent for ESTABLISHMENT (CFE) a pre requirement before production
  2. Consent for Operation (CFO) where standards are prescribed for compliance during discharge of effluents from an industry concerned after treatment. Treatment must confirm to the standards prescribed.

This is a reflection on the industry which adheres to the standards as seen in aquatic and marine life.

The Board's CFO Committee has now decided to make it mandatory for industries to display on boards outside their gate the specific CFE and CFO conditions as applied to the plant and to put up latest environmental quality monitoring data of the area.

They even need to put up the list of maximum vulnerable areas in the event of release of hazardous waste under catastrophic release conditions.

Display of such information would go a long way in keeping the community informed of the PCB decisions vis-a-vis the industry. This could also create a hitherto unknown trust among the community and the industry.
