| Formation
Of Rocks |
| |
| The
study of rocks is called stratigraphy. Rocks are formed by weathering of
the pre-existing rocks. |
|
|
|
| Weathering
could be due to different causes, namely, erosion, transportation and deposition.
New rocks get formed when such weathering takes place. |
|

|
| Basically
rocks can be classified into two types:Primary and Secondary rocks. |
| The
Primary rocks are further classified into Magmatic rocks and Volcanic rocks.
|
| Magmatic
rocks are the rocks which intrude below the earth's surface while volcanic
rocks are those which are formed when magma comes on to the surface of the
earth. |
|

|
| Secondary
rocks are formed when forces like air, water or chemicals act on the primary
rocks. The secondary rocks under pressure and temperature change undergo
metamorphosis and are also referred to as metamorphic rocks. |
| Granite
and Gneiss rocks are the basement rocks which are older metamorphics. Gneisses
is nothing but bands of dark particles. |
