Coastal
erosion Coastal erosion is a serious problem, particularly in many stretches of coromandel coast, where rates of shoreline erosion or beach retreat average several meters per year. In some areas like Uppada in East Godavari district, the problem is severe. Although the coastline is highly prone to natural erosion and sedimentation processes which include the scourging effects of a high wave energy environment, strong littoral transport, and a subsiding coastal plate, erosion has been intensified by human activities. |
