The mangrove ecosystem plays a vital role in coastal economy by way of providing natural spawning and nursing ground for many important fish and shell fish varieties. They also help in reducing the impact of natural disasters in coastal area. Though it had been studied and reported that the mangrove areas are not suitable for aquaculture, because of high organic matter content and acidic nature of the soil, mangroves are reported to be converted into aquaculture farms, thus creating ecological imbalance.
