Aquaculture and capture fisheries Our
state the coastal zone has 723 sq.km. area under aquaculture including
an area of 400 sq. km under fresh water fish culture. Shrimp farming is
taken up on large scale in Nellore, Prakasam and East Godavari districts.
The aquaculture activity has attracted severe criticism from environmentalists
.
The
south coast of our state has become attractive for entrepreneurs for investing
in shrimp culture. In the districts of Nellore and Prakasam there are
important creeks like Kandaleru, Gundlakamma, etc. where the activity
is accelerated during recent years.
The
Andhra Pradesh Space Research and Application Centre (APSRAC) has conducted
a study with the help of satellite imageries and concluded that in the
district of Nellore, mostly wastelands are put to aquaculture. However
the industry is in doldrums because of the viral attack which has affected
