The status of Bio-medical Waste Management in Andhra Pradesh as described earlier is in a very preliminary stage. Presently the wastes are being disposed off in a haphazard manner like dumping into municipal garbage along with other household municipal wastes. This way of disposal is not only enhancing the potential release of air -borne pathogens but also contaminating the groundwater by way of leaching as the municipal dumpsites are presently not engineered as secure landfills. This method of handling the biomedical wastes is unsatisfactory and is an unscientific method of handling the infectious wastes.
