| Burra Caves |
Burra Caves are highly popular among tourists visiting our state. The beauty of the caves is rare and astounding. |
While the known history of Burra Caves can be traced back only to a few 1000 years, the age of the rocks of Burra caves can be estimated to be around 1000 million years. These rocks are secondary formations. They were discovered by nomadic people who inhabit these rocks. |
Situated in the Eastern Ghats, the Burra Caves are basically carbonite rocks. These carbonites, reacting with the groundwater have caused what are called solution cavities, with a beauty of their own. On account of continuous seepage of water within, the solution cavities have produced dripping roof pendants which are known as stalactites. The deposits which precipitate on the surface below because of the drip from above, take the shape of small, elevated minor domes. These are called stalagmites. Looking beautiful, highly attractive for visitors, the Burra Caves are a den for wild life too. |
