The mean monthly maximum and minimum temperatures in the state vary between
34.20C to 44.80C and 12.50C to 21.30C respectively. In the northern -
most Telangana districts, temperature goes down to 130C, the lowest recorded
being 80C in winter. During summer, temperatures go as high as 450C in
places like Vijayawada and Ramangundam.
According to the study done in 1996-97 it is established at 550 tonnes/day.
This was calculated on the basis of the total vehicular population, types
of vehicles, average travel distance per day and emission factor.
Besides, the Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board has carried out the
ambient air quality monitoring at important locations using high volume
samplers. This was done in the cities of Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam and
Vijayawada. Results of this monitoring indicate that the ambient concentrations
of SPM are higher than the WHO standards. The peak values of carbon monoxide
are very high. But while the sulphurdioxide and nitrogen oxide values
are closer to the standards prescribed for commercial areas, the lead
values have reached alarming levels. They are in excess of the standards
prescribed for ambient air.
