Noise pollution

The present world is very noisy. Take, for instance, factories, traffic or any other public place, there is din everywhere. Apart from this, newer technology with loudspeakers and even domestic gadgets have brought in noise in our lives.

While the sound which is pleasing to the ears, and which gives comfort like a musical note is defined as 'sound', penetrating, uncomfortable, loud sound is defined as "noise".

Noise is not only hard on our ears, it is known to cause psychological stress in both human beings as well as animals. In our lives, the source of noise could be domestic, industrial or transportation. Sound, which is measured in decibels, dB, has certain thresholds for us. While a normal conversation may be 60 dB, sounds beyond 90 dB are a health hazard. Though most common sounds lie in the 50 to 90dB, even these are "noise" as they drub our ear drums.

Noise has indeed turned out to be a health hazard in our present day society. Unless we take care, it could turn us out into psychological wrecks.

The levels of noise in Hyderabad are higher than the standards set by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).
