The Delhi based ENVIS RPs have collectively continued with the tradition of celebrating ‘Van Mahotsav’ to encourage community participation in a unique manner involving communities. This year under the ‘Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat’ (EBSB) Scheme, Delhi’s partner state Sikkim’s ENVIS centres have agreed to celebrate Van Mohotsav 2021 together with the Delhi based ENVIS RPs. In this testing times of pandemic, community participation is the most challenging task. Thus, while maintaining social distancing and by following all the COVID-19 protocols, it was decided to start a programme ‘Plant Where You Are’. Community stakeholders like general public, students, GSDP candidates, ENVIS staff were requested to plant trees in their neighbourhood and their places of work.
These Green Volunteers were encouraged to plant sapling and take pictures of plantation activities. Details such as number of trees planted and name of the species were submitted by the green volunteers. A total of 62 responses were recorded across the country, majority of them being students. A total of 2665 saplings were planted in the week and the photographs during the plantation process were shared with the ENVIS Team.
